Hundreds attended Blingo to CureDuchenne at The Rittenhouse Hotel on Saturday, April 11. Funds and awareness were raised for the devastating disease Duchenne muscular dystrophy. Hosted by the fabulous Marisa Magnatta, the evening was an elegant affair that communicated a powerful message about this important cause.
Duchenne is the most common fatal genetic disorder diagnosed in childhood. Historically, most boys are wheelchair bound by age 12 and do not survive beyond their mid-twenties. Nearly 20,000 boys are living with the disease in the United States and over 300,000 boys worldwide.
Manu Ghambir, a local parent whose son lives with Duchenne, led local efforts to coordinate Blingo. Funds raised at Blingo go towards CureDuchenne, a California based non-profit leading research efforts to find a cure for the devastating disease.
